Submissions

Do you have a great idea for a book? Are you working on a manuscript? Do you have dreams of becoming the next great Canadian writer? Pitch to Leaping Lion Books! Submissions are reviewed by Mike O'Connor, York University's Book Publishing practicum course director. If accepted for publication, it will be handed over to the Professional Writing students to be, among other tasks, edited, marketed, designed and finally, published.

Things to keep in mind before submitting your manuscript:

1. Contact us with a short pitch before sending your full manuscript.

2. Check out our catalogue to get a taste of what we publish. We accept works of fiction and non-fiction. In the past, we’ve published mystery, plays, history, short story anthologies and various non-fiction. Sorry, Romantics—romance and poetry are currently not accepted.

3. Authors must be Canadian.

4. Submissions must be sent as PDF or Microsoft Word doc files.

5. Attach a letter of enquiry with your submission that includes an outline or summary, bio, publication credits (if applicable) and a sample of the work.

6. Include your name and address on the manuscript (not just the cover letter), as manuscripts can and do get lost.

7. Do not send original art or photos.

8. Although a former publication is an asset, it is not a requirement.

9. Unsolicited manuscripts are welcome.

Send submissions to oconnorm@yorku.ca.
